THE CHURCH OF OUR LADY ASSUNTA

THE CHURCH OF OUR LADY ASSUNTA is a Catholic place of worship located in the fraction of Cenova.

It was erected in the fifteenth century and then, between 1684 and 1702, it was subjected to a major Baroque restoration by Gio Batta Marvaldi, an important artist from the Maro valley. For the abundance and refinement of the decorations, the bishop Alessandro Piazza called it "the cathedral" of the Arroscia Valley.

Inside there are several 16th century polyptychs depicting Sant'Antonio di Padova, Sant'Anna with Maria Bambina and Santi and a canvas of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria.

In the sacristy there are two works engraved on slate slabs, created by Cenova's stonemasons: the first, dated 1486, represents the monogram of Christ, the second, from 1578, represents the symbols of the Passion of Christ and is made by Pietro Valenzi one of the most important masters of the stonecutter school.
